ADVENTUROUS SPIRIT

“Mauritius is nature’s gift to us and we should make the most of it. Its beauty is unique and we should ensure that we know how to preserve and conserve what we have been blessed with”

HI ANNE, SO TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF, WHERE ARE YOU FROM ?

I was born in the south of France almost 30 years ago, surrounded by a brother and sister with whom I share an incredible bond. I hold a Master in Marketing and Commerce from University of Montpellier, France and a Diploma in Business and Management from Dublin, Ireland through the European program called Erasmus. Following my studies, I started working in Andorre and within 2 years and a half I was promoted sales manager in the
distribution sector. My parents say that I have an adventurous spirit and loved discovering new things as a young girl. I often used to ask them to take me out to specific
places regardless of the time and weather. I always wanted to see and know everything.

YOU DO COME ACROSS AS SPIRITED STILL !
HOW DID YOU DISCOVER MAURITIUS ?

I met my partner during my studies in Montpellier. We have been together since then so I often came to Mauritius during my holidays. After some time, I decided to move to
the island. It was a very important decision to take as it meant leaving everything behind. It also meant a lot of changes but it is also one of the best decisions that I have
taken.

IT TAKES A LOT OF COURAGE TO DEVELOP THE ENERGY TO WANT TO CONQUER THE WORLD. HAS ANYONE IN PARTICULAR INSPIRED YOU TO  BECOME AN ADVENTUROUS PERSON ?

My family has a rich history of great travelers! It all started with my great great grand father who left his family when he was young to start a new career in Egypt. Upon his arrival, he met with Ferdinand de Lesseps. From 1859 to 1869, he contributed to the construction of the Suez Canal.  My grandfather settled in Ivory Coast in 1937 to start
up an agricultural organisation. My grandmother joined him 3 years later by travelling through the Sahara desert along with the army. They stayed in Ivory Coast for more
than forty years. My dad and my uncle had their share of adventure as well when they decided to cross Europe and Asia by car in 1970. They travelled a staggering 37,000 kms for this trip! As you can see, we are adventurers, open to the world. Till today, the travelling gene is very strong in our blood.

WHAT DO YOU DO HERE IN MAURITIUS FOR A CAREER ?
I am a senior consultant at Feber Associates Ltd which is the corporate pension arm of the Mauritius Union Group. We are specialised in the management of pension schemes for companies and businesses. I enjoy my profession, it allows me to deliver an important message in order to raise the awareness of the population on the necessity to plan an added revenue for their retirement. A lot of Mauritians are not aware of what they will earn as at retirement. Our duty is to prepare them and to find an adapted solution with the help of their employers.

HOW DO YOU LIKE MAURITIUS ?
ARE YOU HAPPY HERE ON OUR PARADISE ISLAND ?

I like the warmth and exotic aspect of Mauritius which can be felt through the inhabitants. Mauritians are optimistic by nature, bubbly, friendly it is heart warming. I also love Mauritian cuisine in all its variety, even though it tends to be rich. Although the island is small, there are lots of places to visit. I love walking on the beach while the sun
sets and I marvel at the colours and play of lights. I also enjoy reading about Mauritian history. My curiosity makes me wander to historical sites and I imagine what life used
to be like back in the days.

YOUR ANSWERS ARE VERY MOVING AND IT IS GREAT TO SEE HOW OPTIMISTIC YOU YOURSELF ARE ! DO YOU HAVE ANY CLOSING COMMENTS  FOR OUR READERS ?

Well, Mauritius is nature’s gift to us and we should make the most of it. Its beauty is unique and we should ensure that we know how to preserve and conserve what we have been blessed with.
