FRANCESCO SOMMER - THE MAN BEHIND THE GREAT SENSE OF HUMOUR!

HELLO, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?

My name is Francesco Sommer and I was born in Italy on the 16th of October 1979.

My family on the side of my father is originally from Hungary (we are speaking about some hundred years ago) then during the independence wars they moved to north Italy and during the second world war the family moved to Genoa my natal city.

My family has always been in photoreportage business and my grandfather was one of the most famous PAPARAZZO during the Dolce Vita period in Portofino area,
taking pictures of the most famous actors and celebrities coming there on holidays.  From Walt Disney to Stanlio and Onlio, from Hemingway to Evita Peron.
I studied languages from secodary school and I speak Italian, Spanish, French, English and Russian.

I have one older brother also in tourism business working for Costa Cruise.

HOW WAS YOUR CHILDHOOD?

I always loved to make people have fun and I always liked to make jokes and the most funny one I remember was when I was 10 years old. I was at home one morning and I decided to make a telephone joke to my grandfather.

I left a voice message at his office pretending to be somebody from the Mafia with a tipical mafioso accent asking for some pictures apparently taken…

I was absolutely surprised when I discovered that my grandfather did not exit from his house for 5 days because he believed the call was true…my mother got
angry with me but even now she is laughing when she remembers that joke and the false phone call…

I LOVE THE JOKE TOO! WHAT CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

When I ended my studies I wanted to travel and the easiest way at that time
was to work as entertainer in an international Hotel chain, Italian clubs all
around the world.

I started working in Tunisia in 1999 and then I moved to Mexico, Domenican Republic, Tunisia again, Maldives, Capo Verde, Greece, Egypt always working
in hotels starting as entertainer, then receptionist, Front office manager, Chief du village, assistant GM.

When I was in Egypt I met my wife…we decided to stop travelling for some years only to set our future…We got married in 2007, I continued my career in  Hospitality in Genoa working mostly in city hotels such as Holiday inn and Bentley Hotel ( luxury hotel in the center of Genoa), studying a hospitality master  by night and in 2008 our life became magic when Sofia was born on the 10th of August 2008. In 2010, September the 10th, Sofia had her younger brother, Leonardo and when Leo was 8 months old we had the chance to come and work in Mauritius.

IS THERE SOMEONE WHO SEVERELY IMPACTED ON YOUR LIFE?

Surely the person who most influenced my professional growth is my cousin Piero
Ivaldi, famous General Manager in Italian and International hotels chain who taught me a lot and gave me all support and advice during the most important
choices in my working and personal life.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO MAURITIUS?

When I was working in Genoa I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Maxime King and after keeping in touch for some months I came and visit Mauritius with the hope to change my life and the one of my family by giving my children the possibility
to grow up in a paradise island like this.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?

I love the climate since I hate winter, snow and cold raining days, I love the
easy life style, the possibility to reach places without spending hours in the
car or looking for parking, I love the people living in Mauritius, local or foreigners.

I had the chance to meet mostly nice and kind people.
I love the idea of my children growing in such a paradise, where living means together. I love this philosophy that at the end of the day everything is gonna be alright.

I love the positive attitude.
