LIFESTYLE

HI CHRYSTEL, WHERE DO YOU HAIL FROM?
I’m French and come from a family of four. My childhood has been a very happy one and I have fond memories of bouts of laughter with the whole family. I have not been to university as I got married when I was twenty.

WE LOVE CHILDHOOD ANECDOTES! WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE SOME WITH US?
I have spent all my childhood living near the beach in Brittany/ North-West France and I used to spend my Wednesdays and days off on the beach fishing in both winter and summer! I am the only daughter and I have 3 brothers and this has influenced my character and personality. Let’s say that my brothers have annoyed me so much when I was little that today I am not afraid of people or situations.

HOW ABOUT YOUR FAMILY?
Idren aged 24, 22, 17 and 14. I have had my kids when I was very young and it’s only when I got to Mauritius that I started catching up on my career. I am often told that I look much younger than my age and I have a strong character (thanks to my brothers!) so people respect me. I owe my success to my husband who has taken over the care of the children. I am now confidently embracing my professional career!

WHEN DID YOU COME TO MAURITIUS?
We arrived on the island when I was 38 years old. We wanted a change in our life pace. I also wanted to inculcate in my children a different lifestyle than the one we had in France.

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?
We have created a new concept in Mauritius which is the rental of villas along with services and activities. Our idea was to propose to our clients a way of seeing Mauritius differently. We also want our guests to be as pampered as they would be in hotels. Our company is called Oazure Villa Maurice and we have around 20 collaborators from various countries.

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION?
I love the internet and I created our company’s web page www.oazure.com 6 years ago. It has changed a lot since. I love how it is such a dynamic world which evolves constantly.

WHAT IS YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE LIKE?
Every morning I wake up at 06 30 and practice sports until 08 00 before having a lovely breakfast. I work from home most of the time as I like the calm. We lunch at around 12 30 on a terrace facing the sea. Then I work again until my children are back from school. I then take a break to spend some time with them. I spend a lot of time making personalized selections of villas for my clients. The family eats dinner together and we send everyone to bed at 20 30.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?
The natural beauty of the landscape and the simplicity of life, the kindness of the population, its fruits and flowers… I love the authentic character of the island which I like to introduce to our guests.

DO YOU HAVE SOME CLOSING COMMENTS FOR OUR READERS?
I would like to say that I admire and appreciate the understanding and respect prevailing amongst Mauritians from different religious and ethnic communities. This has created a particular ambiance which makes Mauritius unique and different from the other islands we had thought of making our home.
