LIFESTYLE

Mauritius means happiness for me. Every day, I take 5 minutes of my day to realize how lucky we are to live in this amazing place.
HI NICOLAS, WHERE ARE YOU
FROM?
Born in 1988 in Arcachon, France, I have always been passionate about the sea & ocean. My first passion was with sailing and it then became Kitesurfing when I turned 8 years old. With the help of my parents, and my dad's experience in French rugby national team, I dedicated 10 years of my life as a professional kiteboarder, traveling a lot in Europe mainly during school holidays and it was the best lifestyle every teen could have been dreaming of.

YOU WERE KITE SURFING AT 8! PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR CHILDHOOD
My first time in European kitesurf championship was in the South of France, I was the youngest teen of the event. The wind was super strong and gusty, and I managed to participate in the competition nethertheless. That was a great experience that brought me at another level in extreme sports. My first flight with my grandfather in his private little plane was the first flight in my life at the age of 10. I knew that my goal was set up, that from that point I would do a career in nautical or aeronautical activities.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO MAURITIUS?
A video shooting organized by my sponsors brought me to Mauritius in 2007- that was the big turn of my life. I fell in love with this island and people who are living here, their mindset was just as simple as mine with one goal - enjoying the life we are living to the maximum. This is what made me come back to live here at the age of 19 just after finishing a degree in plastic and composite mechanic and building, I decided to travel to Morocco to be trained as an international Kitesurfing instructor.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING HERE?
Back in Mauritius, I was a Kitesurfing instructor working for a surfing school in Grand-Gaube for 3 years. Since 2011, I'm living in the South West coast of the island looking for the best waves and wind conditions on the famous reef of One Eye at Le Morne. This is the place where I chose to take a step forward in my career of small entrepreneur, by launching the company Born To Fly Ltd, the first Seaplane operator of the West coast. I also purchased a parasailing boat to provide tourists and residents with unforgettable moments in the air and to show them the beauty of lagoons and landscapes of the south west of Mauritius from the sky, check us out on www.borntofly.mu

WHAT IS YOUR EVERYDAY ROUTINE LIKE?
I am not an early bird, so usually I wake up between 8 and 9 am, have a nice breakfast and a coffee. I then spend the day in the operations of Born To Fly, at the beach, depending on weather conditions and how busy the schedule is, as we normally start flying both parasailing and seaplane from 10 am until 5 pm. When the conditions do not allow us to operate, I just paddle out to the reef to surf or pump a kite and go for long rides and race training sessions in the lagoon if the wind is blowing.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?
The climate is definitely the greatest advantage of living here for me as a waterman. I also love the ambiance and the mindset of Mauritians who are always ready to help anytime. I think that this spirit of living is really rare these days and the Mauritian culture and way of life are a big asset to the country which is growing in a positive way along with tourism, finances, communication, from my point of view. Altogether it makes for a very attractive place for people from all around the world to live in.

WHAT IS YOUR MEANING OF HAPPINESS?
Mauritius means happiness for me. Every day, I take 5 minutes of my day to realize how lucky we are to live in this amazing place.
