LIFESTYLE

DEAR MICHAEL, WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in London in 1988, I lived in London for the first few years of my life until moving with my parents to Dublin and then Belfast. My father worked in the aviation industry for many years with assignments around the world. We moved back to  the United Kingdom after Dublin, Ireland to Effingham in Surrey. I attended St Lawrence Primary school until I was 15, when we moved to Sotogrande in Southern Spain with my younger brother and sister. My love of travelling and experiencing new and different cultures started with the move. With the opportunities my family were able to give to me in regards to travel and seeing much of the world from our base in Southern Spain, the travel bug took hold and gave me the opportunity to visit a number of countries such as Argentina, Australia and the United States to name but a few.

THE TRAVEL BUG MUST HAVE CALLED FOR SOME GREAT MEMORIES! WHICH ONE ARE YOU FOND OF?
Arriving to Hong Kong for the first time and not knowing how to use chopsticks, I had to keep a small knife and fork in a bag with me for the first few days of my trip. Amazing times with my brother and sister in wonderful destinations around the world

● Graduating from University in Chicago
● Seeing the happiness of my parents when I tell them about my successes and new adventures I undertake in my personal and professional life.
● Visiting countries and exploring the world by myself and also with my father. Brother and Sister
WHAT WAS A TURNING POINT IN YOUR LIFE?
We had a number of family issues between 2007 and 2011, financially it was a struggle for my entire family, and we also had the death of my grandmother which was a big blow for all of us. I believe that through this time I learnt that money and the rat race of always wanting to make more, show such a strong ego in the work place and in your family life is a waste of energy and time. Cherish the people you have in your life and what you have now. Don’t let people hit you when you are down, an old saying is that you never know what people are facing, everyone has their own struggle and everything happens for a reason, Just enjoy the ride!
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO MAURITIUS?
I Arrived to Mauritius in March 2015 and was challenged by a new language. My French has always been awful. However, culture, lifestyle and work environment has been the adventure of my life for nearly a year and half. I work within the sales and marketing team of the InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort, with what I can say are a great group of friends. We have been through a lot together with changes and challenges on a daily basis. I look after the digital side of the resort, in regards to websites, social media, and the continuously changing world of digital.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT?
● Travel
● Sports
● Food
● Football (Chelsea Fan)
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?
Exploring such a beautiful island, learning about an array of interesting cultures, looking over the Indian Ocean everyday and thanking the people in my life that have allowed me to be where I am today. Living in Mauritius is amazing as it beats a cloudy day in the UK. However I still miss the camaraderie of the UK. I met an amazing person here in Mauritius and with whom I enjoy learning and exploring.
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF HAPPINESS / YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTES / SAYINGS?
Business: One thing is certain in business. You and everyone around you will make mistakes
Personal: Everything Happens for a reason / Don’t take life too seriously!
DO YOU HAVE ANY CLOSING COMMENTS OR OTHER INFO YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?
We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world, make the most of it and keep learning and growing.
