PETRA GISSKE - FROM MODEL TO BUSINESS WOMAN

DEAR PETRA, WHERE DO YOU HAIL FROM?
I was born in 1974, the youngest of three children, in a town called Plzen, the Czech Republic. The town is fa-mous for its Pilsner beer and also one of Europe’s cultural heritage capitals.
I studied at the Prague academy for economics and also I studied hotel management and gastronomy. During the same period, I followed a ten-year career in fashion modeling. My
modeling career took me all around Europe, Asia, Northern America and also Mauritius. I also worked as an assistant Director of Medicom VIP, the largest cosmetic surgery clinic  in Prague. Several of my current, repeating Sunshine Paradise clients are people that I have met during my career.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE SOME MEMORIES THAT HAVE SHAPED WHO YOU ARE TO OUR READERS?
From childhood, I loved singing and in 1989 I won the new talent competi-tion in the Czech Republic. A definite milestone was when I joined my now husband in Mauritius in 2002. I am
also proud of the fact that I have worked for some of the top modeling agencies in Germany and Italy. I am blessed with a son that loves nature and is a carbon copy of myself and shares my passion.
HOW DID THE ADVENTURE OF LIFE TAKE YOU TO MAURITIUS?
My journey to Mauritius was rather interesting. That which should have been a two week modeling shoot, re-sulted in me staying here for now over 12 years. It first started, when I was re-quested to do a photo-shoot for an Italian cosmetic company. Even be-fore the plane landed, I absolutely adored the beauty of the island and as fate would have it, I also met my
husband during the same trip. My husband gave me the opportunity to see what Mauritius offers outside the hotel complex and I was amazed to say the least. “Beauty and the beast”
would come to mind at this time, Mauritius being the beauty and my husband being the beast and both of them being so loveable and adorable.
After two weeks I returned to Eu-rope and once again, as fate may have it, my husband was planning a trip up to Europe. We met up and spent some time together and then the bomb fell “would you like to join me in Mauri-tius?”. Without any doubt in mind I agreed and in early 2002 I moved to Mauritius. Both my parents passed away in Mauritius and that made me
even closer and I am very proud to be a Mauritian.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN MAURITIUS FOR A LIVING?
During the later part of 2006, in co-operation with a Czech television sta-tion and the MTPA, I launched the Miss Czech project. The project was aimed to promote Mauritius in the Czech Republic.
In mid 2007, I then decided to continue within the tourist industry and started Sunshine Paradise.
The company’s main target market being the Czech and Germany and we would provide tourist accommo-dation, excursions and weddings.
The company mainly focuses on high value individuals and people who enjoy privacy and personal service.
The company’s clients included people like:
● Zdenka Zadnikova - Movie star TV Prima
● Roman Seberle - Olympic gold medal winner decathlon
● Peter Kubos - NHL Karel Poborsky - Manchester Utd
● Standa Berkovec - Anchor and movie star TV Nova
● TV team Nova - Largest TV broadcaster in Cz
In February 2011, I was requested to make all the wedding arrange-ments for Miss Bara Kolarova (ex miss Czech runner up). TV Nova closely followed this event and the footage was broadcasted on TV Nova, which has in excess of 8 million view-ers per day. The TV station recorded some of their highest viewer count and they then decided to make a doc-umentary on Mauritius. The docu-mentary was a four part series, which sparked great interest in the Czech
Republic.(http://www.grandbaie.mu/2011/06/footage-in-mauritius-by-czech-famous-tv-company.html)
WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I am passionate to help children and dis-impoverished communities and I have a love for  animals. Well maybe my statement can be demonstrated with the various charity events and
also that I have more animals than what is the norm (9 Yorkies).
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?
Well firstly would be the people of Mauritius. They are kind and loving, caring and even during hard time never without a smile. The nature sites, evergreen nature and crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. I feel free in Mauritius and safe from the rest of the world.
