SHANE ROLFE - WHEN SPORTS MEETS BUSINESS THE STORY OF SHANE!

WHO IS SHANE ROLFE?

I grew up in South Africa as an only child with both my mother and father owning their own businesses. So, guess I learnt the business ropes at a young age whilst travelling around the country with my dad during school holidays. The main thing I recall from this experience is people’s skills and my father was a stickler for good manners. I did all my schooling in Government schools & have no posh schools to brag about.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD HOBBIES?

My early childhood consisted mainly of sports, I still claim that’s the only reason my parents got me to go to school – to play every possible sports available. This is where I met my two best friends who I still speak to every week and who were the two best men at our wedding. Some of my best memories consist of weekends spent at a large Dam called Bonamanzi where we had a house. Days consisted of riding bicycles on sand roads, fishing and building tree houses.

WHAT DID SOUTH AFRICA BRING TO YOU AS A PERSON?

I remember representing South Africa at a young age & then being privileged to play  professional soccer in the UK at the age of 18 for Crystal Palace. I met my wife Julia in Johannesburg when I was 23 years old and we have now been married for 10 years and have two beautiful sons Keenan and Brodie.  My wife was in fact born in Mauritius and is a Mauritian Citizen and so are my two boys.  My current biggest life lesson is how children change your life and kill your selfish ways so you can put their dreams ahead of yours. I have such a respect for my parents and all they did for me.

HOW DID YOU END UP IN MAURITIUS?

After many years in corporate business both my wife and I wanted a change and with Julia being Mauritian, Mauritius was always on the radar. In 2007 we sold up everything and fully committed to the move to the sunny island of dreams. Since then we have never looked back and always make the best of living in Mauritius.

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL?

I currently run our group of companies which consists of 6 different market segments mainly focused in Environmental Technology Products.  I arrived in Mauritius in 2007 to start our first business “Specialized Cleaning Technologies” which supplies technology-based cleaning solutions to the hotel and restaurant industry with Ozone based Dishwasher and Laundry products that save the hotel operator 70% on energy costs.

We are the only BioTechnology cleaning products company in Mauritius and our goal is to rid the island of dangerous chemicals with our Biorange of cleaning products called
Innu Science. Our Innu Science Biotechnology cleaning range works better than
chemicals at a lower cost and is so safe you can drink it. We then opened 5 other businesses over the next 4 years and now we trade in Energy Management systems, Boat Manufacturing and Sales, Children's safety swim wear, Bottled Water and we are the sole distributors for the leading GPS company in the world GARMIN. We have recently expanded our business into Seychelles, Maldives and Reunion.

WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT?

My main passion is family, people and personal development of people.  I always try to have one person close to me to teach and mentor.  Another passion is the youth of Mauritius and sports and finding ways to bring the two together. I have recently started a new sport in Mauritius called Drift Triking where you take an old bicycle and turn it into a Tricycle for downhill drifting…great fun! The kids of Tamarin love it and I must admit I feel like a kid again participating with them.  Next year I plan on getting involved in coaching soccer my other passion as my oldest son will be turning four and would like to pass this passion on to him.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?

People, Food, Weather, Sea - wow I could go on and on….amazing place to live in! So easy to pop down to amazing beaches like Tamarin and Le Morne or even going for hikes in the Black River Gorges and it all costs nothing whereas in big cities you can’t do these things.
