TIMO GELDENHUYS

I love the freedom of Mauritius. I love the fact that Mauritians are so proud of their country. I love the progressive nature of the economy and vibrancy of Mauritian democracy.

HELLO TIMO, WHERE DO YOU HAIL FROM?

I grew up and went to Primary School in the small coastal town of Umhlali, 50kms north of Durban, South Africa.
I am the youngest of 4 children and to this day we are an extremely close family. I attended one of the leading
boys schools in South Africa, Durban High School as a boarder and matriculated in 1991, having represented
the school 1st teams at cricket and rugby.

In 1992 I was selected as a Rotary Exchange Student and spent a year in Germany in a town called Oldenburg.
It was shortly after the wall had come down between West and East Germany and hence a very vibrant place to be. I subsequently studied in Durban and obtained a 3 year IMM graduate marketing diploma.

WHAT WAS YOUR CHILDHOOD LIKE?

I have extremely fond childhood memories filled with happiness. 2 of my best friends to this day are guys I
have known since I was 6 years old. We were sports crazy and every waking hour was spent playing cricket, rugby, golf, soccer or anything else that involved a ball! On my 10th birthday I was allowed to invite 10 friends to celebrate with me. I had spotted a BMX bicycle that I really wanted but I knew that the only way I was going to
get it was to buy it myself and I certainly did not have the money…..so I made a plan. I photocopied the invitation to my birthday party and invited everyone I knew at school, being very particular about the fact that should they come along, they needed to bring money. Over 40 people arrived and although not everyone got sweets,
cold drinks and cakes, I got enough money to buy my bike!

THAT’S A GOOD IDEA TO GET YOUR PERFECT GIFT! HOW ABOUT YOUR FAMILY LIFE HERE?

I have been very happily married to Tamany since 1999. We have 2 gorgeous daughters, Emma who is ten and Hannah who is six. They are my everything and I thank God every day
for my beautiful family. It can be challenging being the only man however but a small price to pay!

WHO OR WHAT HAS MADE YOU WHO YOU ARE TODAY?

The people who have made the biggest impact on my life are my parents. Before my Dad passed away last year, they had been married for 50 years. They epitomized of what a good marriage should be. I pray and trust that Tam and I can do the same for our children and if at the end of my life that is all I have achieved I will die a happy man.

THAT WAS A TOUCHING STATEMENT! WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO OUR SUNSHINE ISLAND?

My father was in property and when my business partner and I started a niche property sales and marketing
company in South Africa in 2002, I knew I had found the place where I be longed. We concentrated on golf estate/resort property. When the IRS legislation was passed in Mauritius, we were fortunate enough to be introduced to the developers of Villas Valriche in Bel Ombre.

Our company in South Africa Hayes, Matkovich and Associates formed an association with a subsidiary of the ENL Group, Espral Ltee and established Espral International (EI) which focuses on the sale of IRS
properties to international buyers. I very willingly came to Mauritius towards the end of 2005 to assist in the
set-up process and as a result of our efforts EI has become a leading IRS sales company in Mauritius. 8 years
later I am the Sales Director of EI, being responsible for the sales of both Villas Valriche and La Balise Marina in Black River.

WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT?

I am passionate about life. I believe in living each day to the full and making the most of each moment. I love my
sport and I am an avid golfer (play off a 7 handicap) and have recently started mountain biking. I love travelling and through my job I have been fortunate to visit so many different places. I recently visited Russia for the 1st time which was amazing. Different cultures and different people fascinate me.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?

I love the freedom of Mauritius. I love the fact that Mauritians are so proud of their country. I love the progressive nature of the economy and vibrancy of
Mauritian democracy. I love the lifestyle and feel exceptionally privileged that my children have the opportunity of growing up in such a wonderful environment.
