Sinusitis Sinusitis is inflammation (swelling) of the lining of the sinuses, caused by a viral or bacterial infection. The sinuses are small, air-filled cavities behind the cheekbones and forehead.
Symptoms of Sinusitis
- Blocked or runny nose
- Pain and tenderness in the face (near the infected sinuses)
- A high temperature
Prevention of Sinusitis
- To decrease your risk of getting sinusitis:
- Exercise regularly,
- Drink plenty of fluids, particularly water,
- Do not smoke and avoid smoky environments
- If you have an allergy, take the appropriate medication on a regular basis
Did you know:
The other symptoms of Sinusitis can be tiredness, headache, cough, bad breath (halitosis), pressure in the ears, loss of taste and smell, and a feeling of being generally unwell.
You should consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after seven days, if they are getting worse, or if the sinusitis keeps coming back.
