 LET’S SAVE OUR CHILDREN!
The core of our programme consists of the two SOS Children's Villages. SOS Children's Villages Beau Bassin and SOS Children's Villages Bambous caring for some 150 abandoned children. There is also a Family Strengthening Programme (FSP) which cares for some 800 children living mainly in deprived localities for the prevention of child neglect and abandonment. Our programme comprises of a host of activities and services, like education and child’s rights, to respond to the needs of the Mauritian child. SOS Children's Villages Mauritius was founded in 1989 in virtue of an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Mauritius. It is affiliated to SOS Kinderdorf International (SOS KDI), the umbrella organisation. More than 80% of our expenditures goes directly to the children
under our care.
SOS MOTHERS RECEIVE RING OF HONOUR FOR DEDICATION
The SOS mothers were very emotional as they walked to receive their ring of honour on behalf of the President of SOS Kinderdorf International. They are 12 SOS mothers in all, caring day and night after children others have abandoned or neglected. These SOS mothers have served for more than 10 years and brought up two “generations” of children. Among the former SOS children, who are now adults, some have been very successful, married with own family
and children and some others still need our support. "We do our best with our heart to give these children the care and love they need”, says an SOS mother's representative. In recognition for their longterm dedication the umbrella SOS Children’s Villages Organisation has awarded to each of them a Ring of Honour. SOS Children’s Villages Mauritius
is dedicated to social development, the welfare and education of the most vulnerable children. Actually, we support some 150 abandoned children in our two children’s villages and we care for some 900 kids through our Family Strengthening action which aims to prevent child abandonment. The first children’s village was built in Mauritius in 1992 and the organisation will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. SOS Children’s Villages Mauritius believes in a family approach to child protection and we rely on the contribution of generous individuals and companies to maintain this unique family based programme in Mauritius which is focused on education, advocacy andcapacity building.
