CHARACTERISED BY AN UNPARALLELED SENSE OF HOSPITALITY, THE ESTATE INVITES GUESTS TO UNWIND AND ENJOY A MYRIAD OF EXPERIENCES AMIDST AN INSPIRING SETTING.
The true magnificence of Bel Ombre was unveiled in the 1800’s by Charles Telfair, an Irish naturalist, whose amazing social and botanical innovations transformed the small fishing village. The creation of Bel Ombre Sugar Estate in 1910 immensely contributed to the area’s rich colonial history. The estate is today a perfectly preserved testimony of the plantation era where the past lingers on, weaving its way into the landscape, the life and traditions of the people. Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa is one of the two luxury resorts at the Domaine. Awarded the prestigious Small Luxury Hotels label in 2008, this 5-star establishment is inspired by the grand style of the colonial era and its décor harmonizes with the natural surroundings. Borrowing paths that meander through lush tropical gardens, guests will discover lavish rooms and suites where large French windows open onto comfortable verandas. Each room promises the utmost in comfort. Some face the enticing beaches and lagoon while others overlook the Citronniers River which crosses through. The gentle murmur of the water, the songs of birds and the scents of the frangipani, bougainvillea and hibiscus, all unite to take guests on a voyage of the senses.
Dining is an incredible experience at Le Domaine where 11 restaurants are proposed. Guests may enjoy savory dishes that present the rich flavors of diverse cultures, balancing tradition and modernity. Conviviality reigns at Heritage Le Telfair’s main restaurant, Annabella's, which is inspired by 'the kitchen of the great house' of Bel Ombre. Indeed, unique at Le Telfair is the interaction between the chef and diners who may contribute ideas while the former works his magic in full view of everyone. A unique culinary pleasure awaits diners at Le Château de Bel Ombre, a 19th century historical gem. Tastefully restored to its former grandeur, it is today a delightful restaurant for true gourmets. The Château overlooks an exquisite French garden which seem to stretch infinitely, evoking a sense of freedom and enchantment. Panoramic views of the mountains and the ocean add to the magic of this resplendent colonial house. With large verandas, emblematic pillars, high ceilings and antique furniture, the venue exudes the charm of yesteryear and invites guests to discover the treasures of Mauritian cuisine. Special events such as weddings may be celebrated at the Château in a fairytale atmosphere; vows are taken under the giant Chinese banyan which is itself a sublime source of inspiration. At sunset, diners may admire the golden rays spreading over the green lawns and illuminating the droplets from the fountains.
Guests are also welcome to enjoy exceptional cuisine in the 5-sta restaurants at the luxury sister hotel: Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort. In fact, visitors benefit from a plethora of land and sea activities as they are granted access to both Le Telfair and Awali during their stay. Heritage Golf Club, an international 18 hole championship golf course, which covers 100 hectares of undulating landscape interspersed with lakes and streams, pro-mises golfers exceptional games. Those looking to unwind will find holistic renewal at the Seven Colours Spa - Millesime Collection, which celebrates the essential link between light and life. Set amidst serene gardens, it combines ancient healing techniques with the Mauritian culture of caring. After the welcome ritual – a relaxing foot massage – guests can choose from various treatments using 100% natural essential oils. A vitality pool featuring relaxing bubble beds & hydro-massage jets as well as an intimate ‘Couple Suite’ retreat with a private pool and relaxation area are also proposed.
Two other highlights are the C Beach Club and the Frédérica Nature Reserve. Located right on the beachfront, the C beach Club will appeal to all with its appetizing restaurants, lounge bar, Teens Club, kids corner, large swimming pool an boathouse. It welcomes guests to chill out and enhance their sea, sun and sand experience in a chic setting. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring Frédérica, a 1300 hectare protected reserve covered with dry forest and coastal rainforest. Hilly landscapes, plains, waterfalls and an astounding biodiversity of flora and fauna await discovery.
Words are few to describe the amazing experiences at hand at Le Domaine where the essence of a sumptuous bygone era fuses with timeless luxuries. ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’ said Keats once; he could have been speaking of Le Domaine de Bel Ombre.
