THE HIDDEN JEWEL OF THE NORTH!

After Albion, our explore team is in the mood of exploring the less popular destinations which have hardly been changed throughout the years but which still boast amazing landscapes and natural beauty. Another such place is La Nicolière which is generally known for its reservoir but is in fact more than that.

Found in the district of Pamplemousses, La Nicolière is often used as the more scenic short
cut for those who do not want to use the motorway and who want to chill out and take in the beauty of Paradise Island.

La Nicolière is a lake found on the higher grounds from the north vast planes. It is populated with forests and wild plants. The beauty of La Nicolière is undeniably the
panoramic views that it offers over the northern region overlooking stretches of sugar cane fields. A five minute drive away is the village of Congomah which in turn provides some amazing views over the Moka mountain range towards Port Louis.

PICTURE PERFECT

A biking trail exists along La Nicolière Reserve with interesting features you might come across during your biking trek. Monkeys, wild boars and stags are all animals which have been seen during those expeditions in the wild!  The ride will take you on a trip crossing rivers and forests with breath taking views onto the Lake of La Nicoliere and the Northern islets. Bats have also been spotted when driving at night.

For those who do not enjoy biking and cycling around, a simple drive around La Nicolière will be great for picture perfect moments. The fresh air and pure surroundings around the area are reminiscent of Mauritius when it was less populated.

Noise and air pollution are at a minimum and the romantic ones will rejoice if they choose to bring along a picnic basket. If you are lucky, some hawkers might be selling fresh
exotic fruits along the way. Exotic fruits are in season at different moments of the year.

Another popular event for which La Nicolière is used are rallies. The third round of the YaccoKYB championship took place at La Nicoliere.

The BIC Trophy 2011 was sponsored by IBL Consumer Good and consisted of one round of six stages. 3 tests of 3 km each were done at La Nicolière and the departure was done from Trianon Shopping Park. The last time such an event was held, Farouck Bègue and Marie Louis
Dambreville were victorious from Reunion Island.

Alright, so we have given those amateurs of speed, romance, biking and exploration something to do during their holidays in Mauritius. We hope you will find the right balance during your holidays and enjoy the northern part of the island. We will not spoil the surprise but be prepared to see the astonishing islands of Coin de Mire, Ile Plate, Ilot Gabriel, Ile Ronde and Ile aux Serpents.
