SOS Children’s Villages Mauritius is a private non-governmental organisation operating in the childcare sector. It offers a substitute family to abandoned, neglected and poor children regardless of their religions until they become adults, providing them, within our SOS children’s villages, with the stability of a home, the love of a family, and the necessary education and instruction for their integration into social and professional life as autonomous and responsible adults. The real family environment that exists in our two villages is what makes SOS so special. The model works because it touches on the roots of what is needed in society: that is families. Children need to be loved. They need to have a safe environment, and that is what SOS Children’s Village provides - the stability of a home, the love of a family, respect, dignity and security, that warmth that every child needs and deserves. Each village also provides a number of specialised services like, education, vocational training and psychological counselling.
The organisation also provides outreach services known as the Family Strengthening Programme for the prevention of child abandonment (FSP) that addresses the root causes of child abandonment in Mauritius by empowering needy families to properly care after their children.
