When I remember our stay at The Oberoi the first thing that comes to mind is the landscape of the hotel – Subtropical lush gardens in a peaceful setting where noise pollution is replaced by chirping birds and rippling waves. One must experience this kind of serenity to understand it. So if you need to escape and relax, you can surrender yourself to the beauty of Oberoi Mauritius in Turtle Bay, Balaclava. The view of Port Louis harbor from the shores of the hotel is splendid and the design of the hotel blends in with the landscape in harmony.

I don’t usually make special mention of the hospitality of some places we visit but The Oberoi Mauritius made a good impression on us from the minute we checked in. Hospitality has taken a new dimension during our stay as we were welcomed at the car park itself before being offered to checkin and visit the premises. We asked other guests about their experience and they told us they were repeaters and that they choose to stay at Oberoi Mauritius when they visit the island. I made a query at the reception and was touched to see the receptionist come find me at breakfast to revert regarding my query. We have been visiting hotels for years now and these extra touches accompanied with the usual smile and willingness to please guests is a strong asset for any hotel
but Oberoi Mauritius definitely aces at it.

The magnificent view of Port Louis harbor can be appreciated at The Restaurant which is the main restaurant of the hotel and which opens for breakfast and dinner. Tables are set out in a stylish way and the restaurant’s thatched roof preserves the authenticity of the natural surroundings. Creole, International and Asian cuisine are offered on the menu. The choice of food on the menu for both breakfast and dinner was tricky as we wanted to taste everything. I guess next time we’ll just have to stay longer! On the rocks, as its name suggests is the restaurant found on the beach which serves grilled seafood and meat along with wood-fired pizzas, pastas and salads. The restaurant is opened for lunch and dinner and again you will feel close to nature as it is set on a volcanic rock. You must pay a visit to the gunpowder room which is a national monument which has been preserved in its look but now acts as a private dining venue for a maximum of 6 people. Finally you will be able to enjoy your cigars and cognacs at The Bar which promises a relaxing evening with jazz and classical music playing whilst enjoying the great selection of drinks and cocktails available.

I got pampered with a spa session. I chose the signature massage of The Oberoi and the spa therapist was extremely nice and understanding as I had injured my wrist prior to the stay. The fact that I was able to relax despite my injury was impressive. The spa experience is definitely one not to miss out on and I will recommend the Thai Massage. You can e-mail us all about your spa experience. I would definitely visit the Oberoi Mauritius again. Simply because the
hospitality and setting have seduced us even if we are used to hotel pampering. I highly recommend this wonderful hotel to those of you who need something different from what the West and Northern coasts have

to offer. -By Shikha
